Smile by Raina Telgemeir

Rating: 5 (Amazing)

When 6th - grader Raina knocks her front teeth out, she must go through retainers, dentures, and even dentures in 1980s Chicago to return them to their formal glory. When bully troubles, friend catastrophes, boy crushes, and even an earthquake stand in her way, she needs serious brainpower to help her in the years to come.

This book is perfect for its realistic events, like the premier of The Little Mermaid, the massive earthquake, the original Nintendo, and Footloose. It was actually based on a true story about the author. It also teaches about getting your ears pierced, headgear, acne, crushes, and frenimies. I loved the part when Rania meets Teresa and her friends. I also like the part when she stands up to a bully who makes fun of her brace materials and calls her a dog breath.

This is a book for all ages. Period.
